Compare the2026 Jeep ReconVS 2027 Rivian R2

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Recon are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The R2 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Recon. But it costs extra on the R2.

The Jeep Recon’s 360-degree camera has integrated front and rear camera washers, ensuring clear, all-weather visibility without the need for manual cleaning. In contrast, the Rivian R2 lacks camera washers, requiring you to manually clean the cameras for optimal performance.

Both the Recon and the R2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Recon weighs 1152 to 1262 pounds more than the Rivian R2. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

There are almost 24 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Rivian dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Recon’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Rivian vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep above average in initial quality. With 88 more problems per 100 vehicles, Rivian is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Jeep vehicles are more reliable than Rivian vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Jeep 2 places higher in reliability than Rivian.

The Recon has more powerful engines than the R2:

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Recon is 2 inches wider in the front and 2.1 inches wider in the rear than on the R2.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Recon has standard flush composite headlights. The R2 has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The Recon has 1.4 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front hip room, .8 inches more front shoulder room, .2 inches more rear headroom, .3 inches more rear hip room and 1.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the R2.

The Recon has a much larger cargo volume than the R2 with its rear seat up (30.3 vs. 28.7 cubic feet).

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Recon uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The R2 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Recon to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The R2 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Recon has a standard rear wiper. The R2 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Recon’s Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The R2 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
