The Recon has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Leaf doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Recon’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Leaf doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The Jeep Recon’s 360-degree camera has integrated front and rear camera washers, ensuring clear, all-weather visibility without the need for manual cleaning. In contrast, the Nissan Leaf lacks camera washers, requiring you to manually clean the cameras for optimal performance.

Both the Recon and the Leaf have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Recon weighs 1743 to 2157 pounds more than the Nissan Leaf. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

There are over 2 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Recon’s warranty.

Engine

The Recon’s electric motors produces 476 more horsepower (650 vs. 174) and 366 lbs.-ft. more torque (620 vs. 254) than the Leaf S’ standard electric motor. The Recon’s electric motors produces 436 more horsepower (650 vs. 214) and 359 lbs.-ft. more torque (620 vs. 261) than the Leaf +’s standard electric motor.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Recon has larger tires than the Leaf (265/70R18 vs. 215/55R18). The Recon’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Leaf (265/70R18 vs. 235/45R19).

The Recon has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Leaf; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Recon’s wheelbase is 7 inches longer than on the Leaf (112.9 inches vs. 105.9 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Recon is 3.8 inches wider in the front and 4.2 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Leaf.

For greater off-road capability the Recon has a 3.8 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Leaf (9.1 vs. 5.3 inches), allowing the Recon to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Passenger Space

The Recon has 19.3 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Leaf (111.3 vs. 92).

The Recon has 2.4 inches more front headroom, 2 inches more front hip room, 2.6 inches more front shoulder room, 3.4 inches more rear headroom, 6.7 inches more rear legroom, 3.5 inches more rear hip room and 2.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the Leaf.

Cargo Capacity

The Recon has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Leaf with its rear seat up (30.3 vs. 20 cubic feet). The Recon has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Leaf with its rear seat folded (65.9 vs. 55.5 cubic feet).

A standard locking center console keeps your small valuables safer in the Recon. The Leaf doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The Recon has a 3300 lbs. towing capacity. The Leaf has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Recon uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Leaf doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The power windows standard on both the Recon and the Leaf have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Recon is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The Leaf prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The Recon’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Leaf’s passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

The Recon’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Leaf’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Recon to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Leaf doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Recon has a standard rear wiper. The Leaf doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Recon’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Nissan only offers heated mirrors on the Leaf Platinum+.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Recon keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Leaf doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Recon has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Leaf Platinum+.

The Recon’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Leaf doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

Both the Recon and the Leaf offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the Recon has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The Leaf doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jeep Recon has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Leaf SV+/Platinum+ offers wireless charging.

The Recon’s Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The Leaf doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
