For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Jeep Recon are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW iX doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

To deliver safety and visibility under dusty conditions the Jeep Recon’s backup monitor has standard front and rear washers to keep the view clear. A camera washer system is only offered on some models of the BMW iX.

Both the Recon and the iX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Jeep’s powertrain warranty covers the Recon 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than BMW covers the iX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the iX ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 7 times as many Jeep dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Recon’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep above average in initial quality. With 10 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated below average.

The Recon’s electric motors produces 248 more horsepower (650 vs. 402) and 104 lbs.-ft. more torque (620 vs. 516) than the iX xDrive45’s standard electric motors. The Recon’s electric motors produces 114 more horsepower (650 vs. 536) and 56 lbs.-ft. more torque (620 vs. 564) than the iX xDrive60’s standard electric motors.

For better traction, the Recon has larger tires than the iX (265/70R18 vs. 235/60R20).

The Recon has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the iX; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For better maneuverability, the Recon’s turning circle is 1.5 feet tighter than the iX’s (40.5 feet vs. 42 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Recon has a greater minimum ground clearance than the iX (9.1 vs. 8.8 inches), allowing the Recon to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Recon has .8 inches more front headroom, 1.2 inches more front legroom and 1 inch more rear headroom than the iX.

A standard locking center console keeps your small valuables safer in the Recon. The iX doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Recon to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The iX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Recon has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the iX only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

The Recon has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The iX doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
